Good point! We do have a love-hate relationship with the wilderness. There have been proposals to eradicate a handful of species of mosquitoes that carry deadly diseases. The idea is that the remaining species will fill in the ecological niche. But what if they don't? What if there's cascading effect on the ecosystem? Or what if other mosquito species evolve to carry vectors of disease? Ecological systems are so complex, it's kind of impossible to predict the effects. But then again, AI is tackling many problems that seemed "too complex to model" just a couple of years ago.
